The 2025 OKBT season kicked off back on Lake Nipissing. With this being the third year we have started the season off in an early season zone, it is starting to feel like familiar waters. This year would be a bit different as we decided to switch things and make the opener a two-day event on Saturday May 17 and Sunday May 18.
The weather was not looking ideal for the weekend with rain and wind forecast for Saturday and a drop in temperatures and highrer winds coming in for Sunday. This did not deter any angler though as 119 made the journey to Sturgeon Falls and Lavigne ON to compete and get the season going.
Good fish and big bags were coming to the leaderboard all day Saturday. When the first day closed, Michael Blumhagen was on top of the field with an impressive 97.50″ anchored by a 20.75″ This was just 1/4″ off the one day record for OKBT events. Chris Wdowiak was close behind with 96.25″ followed by Vincent Orlando with 94.75″
As Day two cam and the weather turned cold we wernt sure how the fish would be acting but it didnt seem to matter. Fish were being caught and it was going to be a situation on who could find the right ones. As the board turned off it was still a tigh race at the top. The final results were read and some new names would show up in the top of the field.
1st Place – Chris Wdowiak – 193.25″
2nd Place – Kris Totosko – 189.75″
3rd Place – Michael Blumhagen – 185.75″
Radioworld Big Bass – Rick Beauchamp – 21.00″
It was an impressive showing by all at the event. 119 anglers put up 990 fish to the judge with some truly epic cards each day.

Look forward to seeing you all on June 21st at the Tri-Lakes event
Thanks to all that came out and thank you to all the series sponsors.
