OKBT 2022 Ramsey Lake Results 2

Season 5 for the OKBT has begun. Even though the general bass season does not open for a few more weeks for most of the province, the OKBT visited Ramsey Lake in Sudbury on May 28th to kick off the season. We are lucky that Ramsey Lake is in a zone that offers a year-round season for bass, and we took full advantage of this. R

Ramsey Lake was a new venue, in a new area of the province and at a new time of year for most of us southern Ontario anglers and I am sure most were not quite sure what to expect from the lake but committed to going anyways. What they found was a beautiful body of water in the heart of Sudbury. With a structure to the lake very similar to a lot of Muskoka lakes, deep water and rock, it seemed familiar to most. From accounts pre-fishing was slow with not much being discovered until late in the week when the weather turned warm, and the smallmouth decided it was time to move up into the shallows. Come tournament morning those that did there homework had a handle on what was going on and those that were not there early spent a while trying to figure it out. Most did end up figuring it out and ended up turning in good scores for the day.

When the day ended and the results were finalized we had a new face at the top of the podium to start off the 2022 season. Joshua Hood posted top score of 95.75” to take first place, but Chris Butzen wasn’t giving him the finish easy, as he also scored 95.75” and it took a tie breaker to the second largest fish to determine the placings. Adam Blackmore and Mike Morand also tied at 95.00” with the tie breaker going to Adam for third giving Mike fourth spot. Mig Sig rounded out the top five with 93.50”. the results speak for themselves. We had 14 cards over 90.00” and 339 bass were judged. That’s a good day anywhere. Big Bass went to Justin Awram with a 20.00″ smallmouth caught late in the day.
