The weather man said it would be windy and windy it was for the OKBT #3 Rondeau Bay event on August 15th. 51 anglers came out to challenge themselves on the bay in Erieau, ON which is part of Lake Erie. The wind was high but the bass did not care. They came out to play and provide the anglers with lots of action and some big fish as well.
The leaderboard lit up early and with Rob Mark putting up a 20.50” largemouth the mark for big bass on the day was set. As fish started to come in the lead changed hands multiple time throughout the day. Shortly after noon, Richard Ofner posted fish which placed him out in the lead. Soon after Rob Mark posted his and he took over first place. Mike Morand made a late charge and when the board shut down was sitting in second. After the results were finalized and after a couple late upgrades Rob took first place with 87.75” and Mike finished second with 87.75” as well. With tie breaker being decided with the bigger bass Rob took the win with his 20.50” bass anchoring his total which also gave him Big Bass honours for the day. Richard, who has been consistent all season finished in third place with 87.25”. Fourth and fifth also tied in totals with 84.25” but the bigger fish rule came out again and Bryan Morrow took fourth and Kevin Powell fifth.
It was another great event at another new and awesome fishery. Rondeau Bay did not disappoint with 250 bass being judged and who knows how many were caught that were not submitted. A big thanks goes out to our judge Joelle Lauzon for making our day easier so we can enjoy these events. She puts in a full day like we do and makes sure everything is good to go for the awards. And a thanks to Rick Beauchamp for taking all the photos for us.
We now head into the last event of the year at Kashagawigamog Lake in Haliburton on Sept 12th where we will also crown the AOY for 2020.
I cannot leave without thanking all the series sponsors. Their support just keeps getting better and for that we thank you.
