OKBT 2 Lake Couchiching 2020

OKBT #2 on Lake Couchiching has come and gone, and not a moment to soon in my books. I think the two words for the day were HOT and TOUGH. And hot it was at 34C and thanks to this three week heat wave we have been experiencing in Ontario the lake was like soup and this made the bite extremely tough. Add to this weather induced lockjaw all the pre-event issues for launching caused by the Covid pandemic and it was a stressful event. But none-the-less it went full steam ahead with another great attendance of 66 anglers showing up to take on the challenge.

Some good fish started to hit the board early with Karen Poole posting the first one at 17.50”. It was not long after that Richard Ofner and Mig Sig started posting fish. It was back and forth for a bit and then Richard took the top spot. Kyle Carruthers put up three good bass that had him in the top 5 for a while and the John Dean got 4 on the board and took over 4th spot. Then the bite seemed to die. There was no movement on the standings and when the board shut down at 2pm Richard was still leading with Mig in second. With some last hour fish coming into the judges as always there was movement on the board. When the dust settled it came out with a new leader and eventual winner. John Dean landed a 17.75” largemouth with 40 minutes left that proved to be the fish he needed to jump from 4th to first.

1st John Dean – 84.50”
2nd Richard Ofner – 82.25”
3rd Miguel Sigouin – 78.75”
4th Duffy McGuire – 75.00”
5th Josh Bobyk – 74.75”
Big Bass – Darren McGuire – 19.75”
