Swamp Donkeys, Ditch Pickles, Hawgs, Hydrilla Gorrilas, or whatever you want to call them, they sure did come out to play this month for the OKBT August ‘Swamp Donkey’ Challenge. With anglers from all corners of Ontario and into Quebec participating, we got to see some true northern green bass. Whoever thought that there is no big bass up north just has to look at some of the largemouth submitted this month.
It was a well fought challenge this month with the lead changing hands multiple times. Scott Barton came out of the gate strong on the first day and put up an impressive number. Soon after Jason Northey decided he wanted the spot and took it away. Mig Sig hit up some big green bass and took the lead for a while. It wasn’t till the last couple days that John Dean got into some fish that finally put him in the lead. His card was anchored by a 21.50“and a 21.00“ largemouth that put enough distance between Jason and Mig to hold them off on a last day charge. Angelo Arlotta and Scott Barton rounded out the top 5.
