OKBT 2024 Long Point Bay Results

OKBT 2024 LongPointBay Winner

Long Point Bay on Lake Erie was the venue for the third OKBT event of 2024 presented by Power-Pole Total Boat Control . 119 anglers showed up to participate and try and take home the win and coveted OKBT hardware. With warm weather and low winds predicted for the day, the only question was who was going to go for smallmouth and who was pounding the weeds for largies.

The morning couldn’t have been better conditions. Near still air and a warm night made the fish fire up right off the start. There were quite a few anglers making the long run out towards the event boundary to get to the deeper water and hit the smallmouth. And this strategy looked like it was paying off early for some of them. The largemouth in shallow were also showing up in numbers, but the size was the tough nut to crack for that game. As the day progressed the board was getting busy with a few anglers making a push on the 90” mark for their card. Mike Morand and Ryan Tyler are no strangers to the top of the board and there they were again battling it out. As the morning came to an end the weather switched and winds picked up significantly. By 1pm a lot of water was getting blown out but those that persisted were rewarded with a bite that turned on. When the board went dark for the last hour of the event, Mike Morand was leading the pack with John Wang close behind and Ryan Tyler in third place. The question is how would it end? Always surprises in the last hour and time would tell on this one as well.

As the results were in and announced it appeared we had the first repeat winner of the season. Mike Morand managed to put up an impressive score again to take the win with 93.25”. Mike is coming off a win at Lake St Clair and is making a claim on the Radioworld AOY title for sure. John Wang and Ryan Tyler both finished with 92.00” but John took the position on the tie breaker. Nate Conley took Big Bass honours for the day.

1st Place – Mike Morand – 93.25”

2nd Place – John Wang – 92.00”

3rd Place – Ryan Tyler – 92.00”

Big Bass – Nate Conley – 19.75”

The awards were set up and waiting for the anglers to arrive.Harmony Resorts – Long Point Bay were on board to host the event and fired up a huge BBQ feast that featured ribs, Baked beans and corn. That alone was worth the trip. Great hospitality from Harmony Resorts and the community. A lot of the residents knew about the event and were engaging anglers all week and the event day about it and quite impressed with what was going on.

A big thanks goes out to Power Pole and all the sponsors once again for making the event even better by allowing us to showcase your products and get them into the hands of our anglers.
